The Challenge

A Toronto-based pharmaceutical organization requires a large amount of mixed bed deionization (DI) for several of their pure water processes; most importantly to meet their tight USP specification of 1.3 us/cm and <500 PPB TOC. The customer was receiving inconsistent quality issues and high TOC levels when the DI tanks were first put online from their previous supplier. High Purity Water Services was contacted to help address these concerns allowing the customer to meet USP specifications and prevent costly downtime.

Our Solution

The High Purity Water Services team was able to provide several solutions to the customer with their mixed bed DI. The first solution is High Purity having the only ISO (ISO 9001:2015) led DI regeneration facility in Canada. With High Purity’s ISO processes, it ensures testing on all DI tanks prior to delivery and installation at the customer’s site. The second solution High Purity provided was total organic carbon (TOC) removal on the DI tanks before delivery. With High Purity’s TOC UV destruct and online TOC analyzer, our solution can certify TOC below 500 PPB meeting USP specifications. This allows the customer to put the DI tanks directly online without concerns of not meeting USP specifications.
