The Challenge
A large and well-known Calgary University reached out to High Purity Water Services (HPWS) in urgent need of upgrading their Type 1 and Type 2 water systems. The university’s existing setup included six polishing units, three of which had become inoperable due to the current service provider’s inability to offer timely service, even in emergencies. The remaining three units were also in dire need of maintenance.
HPWS promptly scheduled a site visit, where on-site lab technicians guided our team through each of the six locations where pure water was being drawn. With three units already down and the others barely functioning, it was clear that a complete upgrade was necessary. However, the project presented several challenges, including tight budgets and limited workspace. Additionally, with the new academic term approaching, HPWS had to act quickly to ensure uninterrupted pure water supply for the university’s busy laboratories.
Our Solution
HPWS leveraged its strong relationships with multiple vendors to develop the best solutions for the university’s needs. The university required Type 1 and Type 2 polishers capable of producing substantial quantities of purified water from each unit. Drawing on our extensive experience, HPWS presented three options, each showcasing different polishing configurations.
To address space constraints, HPWS proposed wall-mounted units, and for areas with higher water demands, we incorporated small reservoirs and dispense guns. The university reviewed the options and, to their surprise, found that they had enough room in their budget to add three more Type 1 and Type 2 units in additional locations that had long been on their wish list.
After finalizing the options, HPWS conducted a final walkthrough to confirm workspace availability and coordinated with the university’s maintenance team on drain and electrical connections. With the order placed, including a one-year preventive maintenance service agreement, the university can now rely on their new equipment with confidence, knowing that an HPWS service team is located nearby should any issues arise.
