The Challenge
A large Edmonton Hospital required an uninterrupted critical water supply for its life science testing laboratory. They contacted the team at High Purity Water Services as they were having issues with their current pure water partner. HPWS’s goal was to create a system that was reliable and could fully meet the expectations of the lab team by providing a consistent supply of Type 1 water for lab applications.
One of the challenges HPWS must consider when working in a full-time lab is ensuring that our team does not create any disruption for the laboratory staff. HPWS can often accommodate this by working outside of regular hours (and therefore ensuring that any lab equipment is out of use). After factoring in the needs and requirements of the lab team, HPWS presented our design to the hospital, and were awarded the installation.
Our Solution
The team at HPWS decided that the most cost-effective and forward-thinking way to solve the hospital’s issues would be to install two ELGA Medica Pro systems. Installing one system at a time allowed HPWS to constantly provide the lab with the water it needed for full operation. Having the first Medica Pro in place enabled HPWS to install the second system without any disruption to water supply. The two fully operational systems can each supply 120 LPH of Type 1 pure water, eliminating any potential issues the hospital could face. Each system can be shut down and serviced separately, losing zero time in the process. If there were ever any unforeseen events such as leaks or faulty parts, the impacted unit can simply be turned off with enough water still being produced by the secondary system to fully support the lab team’s needs.
This dual system brings peace of mind to not only the hospital but also to our team at HPWS, as we know how crucial this service is to the public. Since the completion of this installation and the relevant training provided to the lab technicians, HPWS was awarded the service contract, meaning that we can continue to provide our elite service to the Edmonton area for many years to come.
